With the help of the certificate, it is easy for you to make your environmental work visible. Additionally, you have an external expert at your service and up-to-date information to support your environmental work.

What is the difference between an environmental management system and an eco-label?

Organisations using an environmental management system have not only committed themselves to the criteria but also to continuous improvement. The annual planning and result monitoring are important factors.

EcoCompass, Green Office and environmental management systems compliant with the ISO 14001 standard are all environmental management systems.

The eco-label is a sign of fulfilling the criteria at the moment of granting the label. The party that has granted the label often encourages the label recipients to continuously improve by tightening the criteria. The Swan label, EU eco-label and Green Key are all eco-labels.

What is the difference between EcoCompass, Green Office and an environmental management system compliant with the ISO 14001 standard?

EcoCompass and Green Office focus on concrete measures and they provide ready-made tools for setting them up. EcoCompass is suitable for all fields of operations. Green Office is designed specifically for offices.

The ISO 14001 standard sets the focus on the development of processes and action models. The bodies set up the system themselves for their own use according to the standard.

Who is behind EcoCompass?

EcoCompass is owned and managed by the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation, the largest environmental NGO in Finland.

The cities of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen as well as the Finnish Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Education and Culture have played an important role in developing EcoCompass over the past decade.
